SWASHE Projects – School, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation Education is an essential part of bringing permanent transformation to schools and communities in Uganda.
Each school has between 200 and 500 students and so the opportunity to see practices amongst not only the whole student body but also their families is significant.
The project provides latrines, a water source, filters water in every classroom and teachers common rooms as well as a full education curriculum that is taught weekly to the whole student body.
The result is that students and families along with teachers become aware of and empowered to use water well and improve the sanitation and hygiene of the whole community. This leads to lower morbidity and death rates from water-borne disease and improved overall health as well as growth in school attendance and work attendance rates in the community.
